Saint-Clar is located in the southwest region of France, in the Gers Departmente north of Gascony.
Growing garlic is a major industry in the area, and as a result Saint-Clar is known as the CAPITALE DE L’AIL BLANC, or Garlic Capital of France. Noted for its outstanding historical architecture and beauty of the surrounding countryside, Saint-Clar is a major tourism destination.
Saint-Clar is the second of the two original Sister Cities of Gilroy, designated on April 15, 1985, and has sent delegations in 2007 and 2008 to the Gilroy Garlic Festival, including their Mayor and his colleagues.
